01 / Why Wagner
More than beautiful melodies.
Richard Wagner didn't simply want to write beautiful melodies. He conceived opera as a total work of art — music, poetry, stage and light as one single experience.
His music tells its story through recurring motifs, the leitmotifs, that surface like memories and carry characters, feelings and ideas. And for his works he built his own theatre in Bayreuth, where they are still performed every summer. You don't need to know any of this beforehand. You only need to begin.
